Women of Doveton

By Alan McCarthy Join Me

Women of Doveton is a 12 week women's health program open to any woman over 18 who lives, works or plays in the south east of Melbourne.  This is our first women's program after running 3 men's programs.  While I will be present as a “facility manager” for this course I will not be presenting as a White Ribbon Ambassador – we will have female presenters and coaches for each session.

I am looking for a female White Ribbon “advocate” to deliver a 45 minute session to discuss White Ribbon, domestic violence, healthy relationships and ways that women can seek help for themselves or someone they know.

The program is free to participants and most of the organisations involved provide “in kind” support.

The program includes a “come and try” sport component from 6 – 7 pm at Doveton College – a gentle introduction to different sports and local clubs and then a session in our theatre from 7 – 8.30 pm with a different health message each week – e.g. breast cancer, diabetes, healthy relationships.  We have a female psychologist at each session from 7 to 8.30 pm in case the topic for discussion raises any concerns for any participant.
