Men's Choosing Change Ipswich
Remembering
and Togetherness - 20 November 2020 UnitingCare Southbank
UnitingCare began in the early 20th century as a collection of small, localised community services is
now one of Australia’s largest non-profit health, aged care, disability and
community service providers. Through our hospitals and well-known brands (e.g.
Lifeline, Blue Care) we are there for people from all walks of life, in more
than 460 locations throughout Queensland.
Today we meet together as a small group of dedicated and
local counsellors, psycho educators, and facilitators to walk in remembrance to
the lives lost to ‘Domestic and Family Violence’ (DFV). We also join together
to acknowledge that work we undertake in the DFV areas is rewarding but also
challenging, and requires ongoing professional connection and self care.
Men’s Choosing Change Program (MCC) Ipswich has been running
behaviour change programs for over 15 years and works closely with their
community to provide education, and the opportunity for men to become safe,
self aware, and non violent men. Our focus is on psychoeducation and support
for men (18 years +), and establish connection, safety and care for women and
children impacted by violence and power and control.
On this 20 November 2020 we will walk together from 8:30 –
9:00 with a small group of our colleagues from the Southbank (Queensland Performing
ARTS Grass Area) along the Brisbane River in silent remembrance of those women
and children, both past and in 2020 who have lost their lives to DFV. On
returning our Men’s Choosing Change Women Advocate Khiarn Weaver will share her
stories of 2020, and the success, strength and passion observed in this work
throughout 2020. In addition, our special guest and local Queensland White
Ribbon Ambassador Scott Croyden will talk about White Ribbon’s history, and its
new 2020 changes moving ahead
In closing we invite those in attendance to purchase some
breakfast and/or coffee and connect with others to share and gain support and
insight into the evolving work and practice in the DFV space. There are many
local café and coffee shops that can accommodate breakfast and we invite and
welcome you to return to the green space to sit, share and connect over
this vital work, and ongoing social change striving for a more gender equitable
and safer future.
