Turning Pain Into Power: Why I’m Running 100km to End Violence Against Women
This October I will be running 100km at the Blackall Ultra to raise awareness of workplace sexual violence and to support White Ribbon’s mission of ending violence against women.
As a paramedic I’ve spent my career caring for people in their moments of crisis - but recently I faced a crisis of my own. I experienced sexual violence in my workplace, an abuse of power that changed the course of my life and left me struggling in ways I never imagined. Speaking up was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I refuse to let silence win.
Running has been my way of taking back strength and control when everything else felt out of reach. Every kilometre I run represents a step away from silence, a stand against abuse, and a stride towards safer, more respectful workplaces and communities for all women.
By supporting this fundraiser you’re not only helping me cross the finish line of an ultra marathon. You are helping drive change so fewer women ever have to face what too many of us already have. I still can’t quite believe it my first ultramarathon is done… and I didn’t just finish it, I placed 2nd overall female.
The Blackall 100 threw absolutely everything at us with 35°C heat, 3,326 metres of elevation, 101.5 km of technical trail, and even a sneaky thunderstorm to top it off. It was without question the most gruelling, humbling, and incredible challenge I’ve ever faced.
There were moments where I laughed, moments where I sang, and moments where I cried but I never gave up. Every step reminded me why I was out there, to run for a cause that matters deeply to me. To show that from the hardest chapters, strength and purpose can grow.
This run wasn’t just about endurance it was about resilience, mindset, and the power of community. I carried every message, every donation, and every word of encouragement with me across those endless climbs and descents. You all helped me get to that finish line.
