Community Action Group Dashboard

You have taken a great first leap into primary prevention with coming on board as a member of your local Community Action Group. The resources below have been put together to support each member in their journey of violence prevention and engaging with people within their own community. These pages provide support, guidance, tools, and tips on how to navigate a range of topics within the world of community organising and primary prevention.

We encourage you to extend yourself and continue build your knowledge outside of the provided resources. If you come across a topic not included within the CAG Dashboard and you think it would be beneficial for other CAG members across Australia, drop a suggestion in the box at the bottom of the page.

It is important to remember that primary prevention is a marathon not a sprint, take your time to read and reflect on the resources you engage with and know that you can come back to this page and continue your journey at anytime.

Community Organising

When communities work together, the possibilities for positive change are endless. Community organising is the work of bringing people together to take action around their common concerns and overcome social injustice. In your CAG you will be community organisers, provided are some links to ease you into those roles.

Managing Resistance

Resistance is a common response to change because someone is always benefiting from the way things are currently. Given that the group will likely experience resistance, it is important to be prepared. Provided are some links to help your CAG manage resistance.

Goal Setting

SMART goal setting provides clarity, helps teams focus, and motivates people to reach relevant, realistic, and achievable goals. This page will provide your CAG with information on goal setting and walk you through the 'SMART' goal process.

Safety and Wellbeing

Discussing and educating others on violence against women or receiving disclosures can lead to distressing and unsettling thoughts and feelings for some people. Self-care is an effective way to manage and prevent stress and trauma escalating.
