I am Denise Ghiglione — an Argentine-born woman proudly building my future in Australia. Today, I am preparing to take on one of the most demanding endurance events in the world: The Great World Race — seven marathons, on seven continents, in seven consecutive days.
But this journey is about far more than running.
I am running to raise awareness and funds for domestic violence prevention, healing, resilience, and hope. Through this challenge, I hope to support the important mission of White Ribbon Australia while using this global platform to inspire conversations around resilience, recovery, empowerment, and strength.
For many years, I carried difficult life experiences silently while trying to rebuild my confidence, identity, and future. During some of the hardest moments of my life, Australia gave me safety, opportunities, support, and hope. It became the place where I slowly learned how to stand up again.
Running became a huge part of that healing process.
During difficult times, I would put on my headphones and run or walk for hours. Running became my safe space — a way to calm my mind, process emotions, rebuild my strength, and remind myself to keep moving forward even when life felt overwhelming.
What makes running so powerful is that it is accessible to everyone. It is honest, simple, and healing. It teaches discipline, resilience, patience, self-belief, and mental strength. For many people, including myself, running becomes more than exercise — it becomes therapy, freedom, and hope.
Professionally, my life has always been connected to helping others become stronger physically and emotionally. I have worked as a personal trainer, supporting people to improve their health, confidence, wellbeing, and mindset. Today, as a support worker, I continue dedicating my career to helping vulnerable individuals through challenging circumstances. I also hold more than 30 qualifications related to wellbeing, mental health, disability support, care, and community services.
These experiences reinforced something I deeply believe:
People are not defined by their hardest moments.
We can heal. We can rebuild. We can grow stronger. And we can achieve extraordinary things.
This challenge is not only about crossing finish lines. It is about representing hope, courage, multicultural Australia, and every person who has had to rebuild their life after hardship.
If completed, this journey would also make me one of the first 150 people in the world to complete this edition of The Great World Race, while proudly representing Australia’s diversity, resilience, and inclusive spirit on an international stage.
Through this fundraiser and awareness campaign, I hope to:
• Raise funds supporting domestic violence prevention and advocacy
• Raise awareness about the impact of domestic violence
• Inspire others to believe in their strength and future
• Encourage conversations around healing, resilience, and hope
• Represent multicultural Australia on a global stage
Every donation, share, message of support, and conversation helps bring this dream and mission closer to reality.
Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping turn challenges into purpose, one step at a time.
