My Updates

Thank you MWC!

Today, we observed White Ribbon Day with a few words and a few cakes, slices and biscuits for morning tea. I want to thank all who have given time, money and support for this very worthwhile cause. I also want to very much thank the Command within the Maritime Warfare Centre for their unwavering support, it is very much appreciated.

Why?

Why? Why, are we doing this? Why is this a worthwhile cause? Simple. It is numbers. Atrociously bad numbers. Family and domestic violence (FDV) has claimed the lives of 40, Australian women this year. Yes, 40! At the time of writing this piece, we have had 43 weeks this year. It is easy to do the math, and it makes for bad reading. This number does not include the FDV related deaths of 10 children.

Family and domestic violence, and violence against women, is a blight on our society. We must be better. We must do better. As men, we need to stand up and commit to action to prevent men's violence against women. We can make a difference. Lead by example. Our actions can and will influence those men around us and positive action and education for boys and young men is key. All of us have women in our lives. As a modern society, let's be better. We can be better.
